Thorgeld I

The icy, cratered terrain of the small planet of Thorgeld I had been ignored for millennia until planetary scans revealed the presence of precious materials beneath the planet’s surface. The discovery of the valuable gemstones, and ores has led to an influx of mining operations looking to cash in on the untapped world, and brought attention to the other similarly-composed planets in the Thorgeld System. Thorgeld I was a geologically unique world in the fact that the inner core, is believed to be composed primarily of a nickel-iron alloy, with very small amounts of some other elements. These elements were found in abundance in other chemical compositions in the galaxy, but it is a defining trait in the density of the planet and its increased gravity.

The structures on the planet are slowly developing from a temporary housing and mining structures into more permanent buildings as businesses attempt to cash in on the arctic like climate in an effort to attract vacationers. Traffic to and from the planet is light amidst the expansion, dominated more by transports bringing supplies and workers from around the galaxy, more so than by exports from the mines that are largely still under construction. A sizable portion of the workforce in the mines comes from companies based on Prakith, a permanent biosphere to support operations on the planet is likely within the next several years as regional governors are granted additional decision making powers. Competing mining corporations have already begun jockeying for approval to build their own bases on the icy world.

The frigid weather on the planet requires heavy protection for mining operations and their employees. Atmosphere suits are shipped in from the spaceports on Thorgeld II that have been specially calibrated to tolerate the temperatures that average nearly 200 degrees below zero. The suits in addition to withstanding extreme temperatures have been designed to sustain high levels of surface gravity.

Thorgeld II

Thorgeld II is a large, temperate world which is home to many species of plant and animal life. There are many open spaces which would be ideal for camping and big game hunting. Since the majority of Thorgeld II is uninhabited, you can almost be assured of finding an open space to hunt, camp, hike, or just enjoy the planet's natural beauty. There is a local group of human natives, the Jik`antra. While the Jik`antra are small in number, consisting of only a few hundred million, they are extremely secretive and don't take too kindly to outsiders. They are also known to have a very complicated government which takes paranoia to new extremes and prohibits all Jik`antra from venturing out into the galaxy on their own without a series of government issued permits. Further information about Thorgeld II can be ordered from the Jik`antra by requesting and filling out form GELF -327-1138 THOR.

Thorgeld III

Thorgeld III, shares a climate similar to that of Thorgeld I, the planet is buffeted quite often by icy blizzards and strong winds. Amidst the frozen rocky wasteland of Thorgeld III, lies a carefully hidden enclave of philosophers and scholars. The enclave spent most of its time addressing matters of law and hearing disputes creating some of the Empires most skilled practitioners of law; they take great care in the theory and practice of legislation. The Enclave shows marked interest in two areas of the law: slavery, as well as the guardianship of orphans and minors. The Empire was quick to make use of these skilled professionals in the early formation of the Empire. Which Emperor tapped these skilled workers is still a matter of debate, however it is agreed that they played a part in coining the Imperial Slave laws. Tapping into preexisting feelings and beliefs that humans were superior to non-humans. Several of the members of the Enclave left during this rise, taking careers within the Imperial Courts, acting as judges and members of COMPNOR’s civilian staff.

Thorgeld IV

A small and nearly inconsequential world. And like its sister worlds, Thorgeld IV shared a frozen rocky landscape upon its face, whilst bolstering several mining veins deep beneath the surface. Sparsely populated apart from its mining colonists, the world cried to local leaders for help in growing their economy. After quite some time their cries were heard, and Emperor Drayson established a training area for frozen warfare. A small base and detachment established itself, bolstering the local economy creating some 35,000 jobs across the planet. Today the base is used as a prison.

A snowy Rescue

In early Year 15, Thorgeld IV experienced a massive blizzard in the western part of its hemisphere, in the course of five days, nearly six meters of snow and ice were deposited on the planet’s surface. Shelters that were smaller in nature sustained structural damage, with many residents becoming trapped inside. This storm went nearly unnoticed to locals of the planet until a low level transmitter frequency began interfering with probe droids that were placed to patrol the planet by the Imperial Army. The frequency was being sent out was causing droids to drop off the map and shut down. The Army was quick to react, dispatching a detachment of the 1st Imperial Legion’s, 1st Brigade to investigate.

The detachment was under the command of Emillio Peares, a rising star and recently appointed Brigade Executive Officer, known as the “Butcher of Churnis”. Emillio an already seasoned battlefield commander arrived in system using slightly less noticeable craft, a Star-Galleon class frigate to transport the detachment. The detachment consisted of several AT-AT’s and AT-ST’s, and nearly one hundred Stormtroopers trained specifically for cold weather combat. The Galleon touched down about six kilometers south of the snow covered village where the probe droids were dropping out of service.

The detachment; equipped and trained as they were to handle the cold weather environment were slow in traversing the terrain. High winds caused snow that melted as the massive behemoths of the Imperial Military marched to freeze along exterior joints, forcing the commander to deploy forces armed with jetpacks and maintenance tools to break large chunks of ice off the “bellies of the beasts”. As the high winds died down and visibility capabilities expanded, the Butcher of Churnis quickly realized something was wrong, but not necessarily nefarious. Emillio quickly dispatched a platoon of troops to scout the grounds ahead of them, what the platoon found was the devastated ‘city’ of ten thousands residents buried and in critical need of help.

Emilio quickly contacted his higher headquarters and in hours, members from the Regional Government and Ministry of Industry arrived with various loaders and earth movers, as well as legions of worker droids designed to work in cold weather environments to assist in the clean-up. For nearly three weeks the Army, Ministry of Industry and local government staff worked in cohesive manner rebuilding and reinforcing existing infrastructure.

Upon Emilio’s return to the Legion he proposed several changes to the AT-AT’s outer armor that would lead to future models being more resistant to cold weather.
