Born and raised as a citizen of the Hapes Consortium, Amne Zailyn fled Hapan space after being framed for the murder of her fiancée. She was arrested after a brief career as a smuggler, although she was not identified by the Imperials as wanted for the murder of Dianthe Tal'e. Amne chose to serve in the Imperial Army rather than spend time in jail.

Biography

Amne, the only child of Lydia Zailyn and smuggler Rohlan Dermot, was born in the forested city of Farenth, Lorell. Lydia raised her daughter alone and relocated across the continent to a suburb of the Northern Ocean at the request of her job. Due to her strong exposure to Basic on Lorell, Amne grew up bilingual. Amne's first meeting with Dianthe Tal'e

At seventeen, Amne started studying at a distinguished university on Hapes so that she would become qualified to enter the Civil Service. There, she became friends with Dianthe Tal'e of Phelope. Turil'din Isola Kuat had consented to send Dianthe, her second-born daughter, to university in hopes that she would experiment and then return home, ready to be married to Artor, her cousin and the only son of a wealthy Duch'da. Dianthe, however, had no interest in marrying Artor and refused to even acknowledge her betrothal to him. When Amne and Dianthe fell in love, they became idealistic about their future together.[1] Amne believed that Isola would force Dianthe into an unwanted marriage, but she imagined being Dianthe's lover and confidante for life. Dianthe, however, was determined to marry or not marry as she chose. Dianthe proposed to Amne during their last year at university, and they became secretly engaged.

After becoming aware of her daughter's secret engagement, Isola decided to resolve the issue by eliminating Amne. The murder attempt, however, killed Dianthe instead. Amne was effectively framed for her fiancée's murder and three bounties were placed on her. Amne fled from Hapan space, leaving behind her mother, aunt, and cousin, and was welcomed to stay on her father's ship.

Brokenhearted and in hiding from the law, Amne accepted her father's offer to work for his smuggling organization. Amne became closer to Dermot and Vianna, a violet-haired Zeltron slicer in her father's employ. After an assignment gone wrong, Amne found herself arrested by the Coruscant Security Force. Vianna made sure that the CSF did not discover that she was wanted by the Hapan police for murder. She was offered the choice between prosecuted as a smuggler and one year of military service, as long as she so she opted for the Imperial Army. Amne, upon graduating with honors, became Corporal Zailyn and was placed in an elite brigade. Being one to take pride in her work, she devoted herself to her assignments and befriended the other soldiers in her brigade.

After several months, Amne was permitted a brief sabbatical. She spent the weekend on Corellia at an apartment in Carthage. At the end of her sabbatical, instead of being ordered back to the Army base, Amne was immediately sent to a mission briefing in Coronet. Chief Daelis Stanov of Imperial Intelligence would be posing as a wealthy businessman offering to sell Imperial supplies to Dax Goreline, a warlord of Garos, while Amne, Euna Miriel, Lilith Sarka and computer specialist Thalia Brando made up his entourage. Amne and Miriel's assignment entailed protecting Brando as she extracted data from Goreline's casino's mainframe computer.[1] Amne was surprised that she had been chosen for an Intelligence mission, given that she had only recently become an Imperial citizen ... with a criminal record, to boot. Onboard the Mendoza, Sarka foolishly pulled a blaster on Graeda L'Annan, not recognizing the Army Commanding Officer and believing her to be a threat. Amne disarmed the Kiffar crewman and knocked her unconscious within seconds.[1]

Amne declined invitations to the Imperial Ball, hosted on Year 12 Day 39, from Dante Erinith and Lane Rendell in order to attend with Miriel. Amne ran into Rendell on Bothawui while on leave for her twenty-fourth birthday. They went out for drinks and Amne later invited herself along with Rendell to reclaim his space station from pirates.[2] Soon after completing her one year of court-mandated military service, which removed her probationary status and made her eligible for advancement, Amne's commanding officer promoted her to Command Sergeant.

Not long after, Amne's past caught up with her and she was captured by a bounty hunter.[3] After recovering and passing an intensive psychological evaluation, Amne was approved to return to active service. She was assigned to the neutral planet Fenves to help defeat the uprisings and restore order to the established government. In return, the planetary government of Fenves agreed to submit to Imperial authority.[4]

Relationships

Friendships

Although Lane Rendell initially expressed romantic interest in Amne, they became friends as they worked together to reclaim his space station from pirates. Amne later teasingly expressed her apologies when she learned that Rendell nearly married Thalia Brando.

Family

Cecily Nikoris

Although his career did not allow him to be a steady presence in his daughter's life, Dermot maintained a relationship with Amne. As she grew older, he taught her things that "she would never learn in school" but that he deemed "necessary to round out her education," as he later explained to Lydia when she found out. These skills included stealth, thievery and rudimentary slicing and ship mechanics. Dermot later took in Amne when she fled from the Hapes Cluster.

Amne is rarely able to keep in touch with her family, which breaks her heart. Dermot is sometimes able to pass along messages to her to keep her informed; she wasn't able to see Kenna fall in love again and remarry, and she becomes sad when she thinks about missing Cecily's adolescence. Lydia ended up leaving Hapan space and, by reading between the lines of their messages, Amne believes she may be rekindling her romance with Dermot.

Romance

Despite her middle-class upbringing and decidedly tainted blood as the daughter of a smuggler, Amne's committed relationships were with wealthy aristocrats, namely Dianthe Tal'e and Euna Miriel. Amne was primarily attracted to human women, but she sometimes dated men and non-humans. Amne shared a mutual attraction with Vianna, a Zeltron slicer, but Amne was pressed into military service before she was ready to act on it. After hearing Sarka say that non-humans are not sapient and "an alien who can fly a ship or shoot a blaster is like a dog you've taught to open the fridge," Amne verbally mused that one of the greatest nights she'd ever had was with a Bothan who "certainly didn't need to be taught any tricks." Sarka categorically ignored Amne, assuming that the latter was just messing with her in order to derail the rant. Later, Amne privately revealed that she had been quoting Vianna after the Zeltron had taken a Bothan lover but had been so amused by the reactions of others that she let the rumors run rampant.
