High Colonel Euna Miriel was an officer of Army Command who served as the Army Logistics Officer. She was born on the planet Alderaan and was raised by Baroness Karima Miriel and Baron Damos Thul along with her two siblings until the family fractured when Euna was 14. Euna is perhaps best known for her humorous artwork that started out as random drawings to amuse her unit and then spread to the rest of the military. Her portfolio can be seen here.

Biography

Childhood

Euna Miriel was born the second child of three to Baroness Karima of House Miriel and her husband Damos Thul. Although born after the Clone Wars, House Miriel's status as a minor house meant that they still maintained a substantial private military, since they could no longer rely on the protection of a major house. As such, from birth she was slated to be the successor as Warmaster, and be in charge of defending House Miriel's lands when she came of age. Euna's uncle, Xenek Miriel, was the current Warmaster when Euna was born, but because he was not particularly interested in teaching his niece, the family brought in a Coruscanti Clone Wars veteran, Hiram Pickerin, to teach the young girl, and unusually doubled as the language tutor for all of the Miriel children.

Euna did not take to the military training particularly well. Though she was a quick study, she spent little time putting effort into improving her capabilities, spending most of her leisure time drawing, playing with the other children on the House Miriel estate grounds, or helping her younger brother, Valen, in his studies in diplomacy. Despite her tutor's exasperation, her parents were not displeased with Euna's extracurricular pursuits, as the disarmament of the major houses seemed like the post of Warmaster would soon become obsolete. Despite her lack of commitment to the study of warfare, Euna received high marks on most of her examinations, only suffering when her personal combat abilities were tested, and later including higher strategy among her shortcomings.

Flight from Alderaan

Euna was 11 years old when House Miriel was attacked by House Rist, a competitor in information brokering on Alderaan. The head household was able to escape the attack on a freighter, but were pursued by Rist agents for several years. During this time, Hiram Pickerin, who stayed with the family to act as bodyguard, began instructing the children in repair, as it seemed likely they would have to make their living in a much different manner than they had been brought up to do. Baroness Karima was distraught over this change in fortune and the prospect of having to subsist via manual labour, but she could see the necessity of their situation, particularly as their wealth began to be whittled down by their continual flight. Still, she continued to instruct the children in manners, believing that maintaining their noble bearing would afford them better treatment by the common populace, and convinced Pickerin to continue their language instruction.

It took 3 years for the Miriels to escape their pursuers. However, having run out of money, the stress of the pursuit had frayed the relationship between the adults on board the freighter. The family decided it was best to split up and try to make their own way. Auri, the heir, remained with the Baroness, and continued on the freighter they escaped in, trying to make their way to one of the smaller neutral governments on the sidelines of the brewing Galactic Civil War. Baron Damos Thul, the father of the Miriel children, used the remainder of his fortune to buy passage for himself and Valen back to Alderaan, hoping to reconnect with House Thul and possibly having Byrech Miriel finish Valen's diplomatic training. Euna left with Hiram Pickerin, who despite his exasperation with Euna's lackadaisical learning habits, saw potential for greatness, and hoped to have her contribute her talents to the Galactic Empire.

The Sturges

At that point, however, Euna was still too young to enlist in the Empire. Instead, Hiram decided to get her some more practical use out of what he had taught her. He hired out with the mercenary cruiser Sturges, bringing Euna along with him, though she was never an official member of the crew. Hiram picked up the military training that had been interrupted by the fall of House Miriel, and Euna, in her new circumstances, was more receptive. Her personal combat abilities improved to the point where she would no longer a liability. The captain of the cruiser was amenable in letting her practice, eventually letting her partake in minor skirmishes when she was older. For most engagements, however, Euna was only able to observe, acting in support roles aboard the cruiser that kept her out of danger.

Throughout the time on the mercenary cruiser, the Galactic Civil War began to escalate. It was a frequent topic of conversation among the mercenaries, as their services were more and more in demand as the war spread. Pickerin was a staunch supporter of the Empire, and Euna cites Pickerin as having been very influential on her during this time, forming the basis of her political views and ultimately convincing her to join the Empire.
