About

Physical Description

Lira is somewhat on the smaller, slighter side, though the recent years of being forced to support herself have given her a lean, if well muscled figure. She is neither particularly tall nor short, and prefers to keep her hair long, and usually a brialliant red to accent her 'double thorn' tattoo on her cheek. Her eyes stand out from the rest of her body, a gleaming dark purple, the results of an unusual genetic mutation. Her skin is pale, despite the harsh twin sunlight of her desert homeworld of Tatooine.

Lira usually wears comfortable, practical clothing. Lightly layered to withstand the heat of the desert sands, she is often found in simple browns, usually a tank top, a pair of simple pants, and a pair of stout, sturdy dewback leather boots. Usually carrying a simple vibroknife, as she cannot afford a blaster on her own, she has a lithe grace to her walk that comes with many years of walking on the shifting desert sands.

History

The Early Years

Birth - Age 13

Lira was born to poor moisture farmers on the borders of the dune sea on Tattooine. Illeria and Eldrik Vorael had lived on the desert world for many years before their daughter was born, and Eldrik had inherited the small farm from his own father. Their life was a simple, if difficult one. There was often not enough money to support the farm, and the family would have to do what they could to support themselves.

Lira grew up learning how to support herself and take care of her family from a young age. From the time she could walk and talk, she often assisted her mother with chores and tasks around the homestead, and as she grew, her father often taught her the repair skills necessary to keep the various equipment running. Lira proved to have a knack for electronics and soon was relied on by the family to keep things running whenever something would break down.

Lira spent most of her early childhood working on her farm, and only spent the occasional foray into the larger cities on the planet when the family had to acquire supplies they simply couldn't make themselves. These brief, and far between excursions gave Lira a love for big cities, the bustle and livelihood of the streets often filled her with a sense of excitement. To her, in those places, anything was possible.

The Loss of her Parents

Age 13 - Age 24

As Lira grew, the nearby settlements began to put out less and less patrols as the funds began to dry up. The equipment on the farm, dilapidated and broken down after too many patched repairs and overworked after many years, meant that their small farm was less and less valuable to the neighbors, and soon they were forgotten entirely.

Lira's parents, like many Tattooine natives, had a strong stubborn streak, a trait passed on to their daughter, and refused to give up their farm even when things became more dangerous. It was often that the family would awake to find a moisture vaporator or some other piece of farm equipment damaged or scrapped as the Sand People came out of the Dune Sea to scavenge for parts and mechanics.

Lira's father took his own steps to protect their farm, often leaving his daughter to run the day to day aspects while he took an outdated blaster rifle out on 'patrol' of their perimeter to attempt to keep his family safe. It was not, however, during the daylight when the sand people finally struck. Late in the night, after the family had gone to bed, and Lira's father Eldrik was making his eighth walk-around of the homestead, they struck, killing him before he could fire a shot.

Lira and her mother were awoken to the sounds of Sand People cries and the smash and crunch of metal on metal as much of the homestead equipment was dismantled. Before Lira could make a move to try to stop them, her mother stuffed her daughter into a nearby closet with begged, tearful instructions not to come out until it was safe. Lira remembers the sound of her mother's dying breath after her skull had been shattered by a Gaffi Stick.

True to her promise to her mother, Lira did not emerge from her hiding place until well after the homestead had gone silent. When she emerged, it was as an orphan.

Growing up Fast

After the deaths of her parents, Lira made her way to the nearest settlement on foot. There, she was greeted with distrust, and often open scorn. Many had viewed her family's stubbornness as insanity, and felt no remorse or pity for the girl who had no parents. Lira spent the first few years begging for whatever the settlers would give, and stealing when they wouldn't. She was forced to hide in the bed of a passing landspeed freighter after one such escapade that went awry.

Lira arrived after that in the bustling city of Mos Espa, and spent many more years learning from various street gangs and cantina patrons how to survive on her own. When she turned eighteen, she took on a job dancing in one of the seedier fringe clubs on the outskirts of the city, and, though she detested the job herself, she valued the credits it brought her. Lira continued to work at this job for many months until a recruitment officer for the Galactic Empire spoke with her.

The Academy

Lira was quickly convinced that a life in the Empire would be much better than her meager existence on Tattooine, and signed up almost immediately to enlist with the Imperial forces. Using what money she had saved up, she bought herself a ticket off-world and set out for the Imperial Academy with high hopes and little knowledge of what she was getting herself into.

When she finally arrived at the Academy, Lira was met with a sight she was very unused too. An orderly, well built structure with literally thousands of recruits milling about in various activities threatened to overwhelm her senses, but, with all she had gone through, she saw the Academy as only one more challenge to the life she wanted. Lira was placed with Professor Everard de Montfort, who proved to be anything but what her mental image of a military academy professor might be. Cheerful and helpful, Professor de Montfort was always willing to take time away from his Boloball games to help Lira with a particularly difficult assignment, and it was through his tutelage that she was, several months later, able to graduate from the Imperial Academy with Honors.

The Navy

Lira was assigned to join the Imperial Navy, a task in which she reveled. Often she had spent nights on her family's farmstead on Tattooine gazing up at the plethora of stars that were visible when the twin suns had set, wishing she could travel amongst them. With the navy, she believes she will get that chance...

Personality

Goal

Lira's primary goal is stability. As much of her life has been spent living from credit to credit, she longs for a simple life where she has purpose, meaning, and doesn't have to worry too much about putting food in her stomach. She wants a simplistic, happy life, perhaps something she can share with another, though her dreams of marriage or a family are a long way down the road, in her mind.

Likes

Lira enjoys simple things. Watching the skyline of a bustling city during the night, or the moon rise over a clear lake. She likes the taste of Alderaanian wine, and she loves a good, crass joke. She will spend much of her time daydreaming of what her life might be, but never loses focus of what has to be done in order to get here there.

Dislikes

Lira loathes arrogance above all else. She's been known to act out to take someone down a peg or two when, in her mind, they deserve it. She won't stand for someone who holds their status or wealth above another individual, and has been known to get herself in trouble, both with and without the authorities, when situations like this arise.

Fears

Lira has a strong fear of the dark, though she'll often act tough to avoid admitting it. The idea of being shut in a box without any light terrifies her, and its not uncommon for her to leave a light on in her room in order to keep from having to sleep in it. It makes it all the worse that she knows exactly how childish her fear is, but she's never gotten over it.

Attitude Towards Life/Death

Self: Lira approaches her death the way many others might. She sees it as an event in the future that is bound to happen, but not anytime soon. She believes she will live a healthy life to a reasonable age, and hopes that when she does finally die, it will be surrounded by loved ones and at peace with her life.

Friends: Lira has been known to take the death's of friends very personally, often shutting herself away from others for long stretches of time in order to cope with her grief privately. The death of one of her close childhood friends when she was little means she forms very quick, protective bonds with her friends.

Family: As her current family is all deceased, Lira cannot accurately describe how she might deal with the death of another family member. Past experience (with the deaths of her mother and father) caused a very dark period in Lira's life, and one she is not eager to repeat.

Strangers: Lira believes that all beings have a right to experience life, and as such, she is affected, though not as deeply as she might with someone closer to her, by the death of a stranger she might witness.

Rivals: Lira sees her rivals as a welcome challenge, forcing her to better herself to compare with them. Often times her rivals are also her friends, and the bond between them encourages her to further herself. As such, the death of one of these individuals would most likely affect her deeply.

Enemies: Lira has very few enemies, and as such, the death or deaths of one of them would not bother her in any significant way, unless she were directly involved.

Attitude Towards People

Lira approaches people with the same attitude, regardless of social standing, race, or class. She believes all beings have an inherent right to exist and live their lives, and as such will usually approach all people with an open and friendly attitude, though her crass sense of humor sometimes takes some getting used too.

Attitude Towards Money/Power

Lira has no desire to be fabulously wealthy, only hopes that someday she might be able to make for herself a comfortable life, where she does not have to worry overly about money. She does not desire positions of high power, as she dislikes having to exercise that power over another individual.

Attitude Towards Work

Lira is hardworking and steadfast, willing to do whatever she has to in order to fulfill her goals. She has been known to take any job that she believes she can accomplish, among these have been cantina barmaids, a dancer in some of the seedier clubs on Tattooine, and whatever else might put a few credits in her pockets.

Attitude towards Fighting

Lira will fight when she needs to, but usually prefers to talk her way out of things, hoping to resolve a conflict through reason and a quick smile rather than a quick draw and a blaster fight. She dislikes fighting but has been forced, on a few occasions, to protect herself as best she can. She did not relish these encounters.

Attitude towards Anger/Forgiveness

Lira is usually easygoing and laid back, but has a quick, hot temper when something gets under her skin. She is also quick to cool down and usually does not hold grudges. Quick to anger and quick to cool means that most individuals who spend their time around her are always on their toes.

Mental Condition

Lira is largely mentally stable, though some episodes in her past have left her with deep emotional issues. She has been known to use her body as a means of validation, seeking attention most would not, though she maintains her own set of principals and guidelines, and by and large, can be considered a normal individual.

Self-Image (What they think of themselves)

Lira has a difficult time maintaining her own self image. A hard life and some bad experiences have led her to believe that she is neither particularly beautiful nor particularly sociable. She has worked hard at perfecting an emotional mask to hide these insecurities, and believes its better if she simply doesn't involve anyone else in this particular part of her thought process.

Public-Image (What others see in them)

Strangers: To most strangers, Lira would seem bubbly and outgoing and happy. Rough around the edges, perhaps, and with a quick temper and a crass humor, many strangers might recall a previous encounter with her quite easily.

Friends: Those whom Lira considers friends know her to be extremely steadfast and loyal, always willing to help her friends do whatever they might need, and willing to stick her neck out on occasion. Quick to help a friend in need, she is always there for those close to her.

Rivals: Lira's rivals often see her as healthy competition, a means to hone their own skills, just as she views them as a means to better herself and her abilities. Her rivals and her friends are often one and the same.

Family: It is unknown what Lira's family might think of her, as they are no longer among the living.

Enemies Lira's few enemies might see her in a variety of ways, but a threat is almost never one of them. Usually these include those who gave unwelcome advances and received a curt rejection, and often have taken advantage of the somewhat sensitive nature of Lira's self image to hurt her.
