Background

The Orphan Thief

Lucas Vondran was born on Day 268 of the year -4 on the planet Alderaan. Probably the only time in his life he ever spent time with one of his parent. He was never quite sure how he survived infancy, only that someone, somewhere helped along the way. He doesn't remember anyone ever caring for him, feeding him or holding him. All he knows is that at some point, somebody did. At the age of three, Lucas was already scavenging for scraps in the various slums in Belleau-a-Lir, a city known as the supposed "Jewel of Alderaan." At age five he began pick pocketing and burglarizing homes in the richer parts of the city, learning to hack security systems along the way and honing his stealth skills. One day however, while breaking into a transport warehouse hoping to find some packaged food or some goods to sell on the black market, his stealth skills failed him. Karl Vax owned the building. He was one of the wealthiest transport company owners in the city, known for his brutal negotiating and at times, unscrupulous business ventures. He was also the man who caught Lucas red handed. Something about the boy, defiant and unwilling to submit must've impressed Vax for rather than immediately drag the boy to the authorities, he showed him what part of the security system he failed to disable. Vax handed the boy a holocard with his contact information and coded his address and directions into it. Before parting, Karl pointed out two crates; one with food, the other with children's clothing. With Karl gone, and Lucas stunned at what had occurred, there was only one thing the boy could do. He decided the next day to follow the card.

An Orphan No More

Lucas lived with and worked for Karl for many years. For how brutal he had seen him be in his business dealings, at home, he was the father Lucas never had. Karl's wife, Kiara, and daughter, Cynthia, were as accepting and loving towards Lucas as they would've been to their own blood. Lucas was an orphan no more. Karl placed special trust in the boy, training him to fly and fight from the time he found him. By age thirteen, Lucas was running freight, both legal and otherwise, across Alderaan and to surrounding planets in the system and by fifteen, across the galaxy. He learned how to evade both the authorities and pirates alike while also learning to negotiate with buyers and manage shipping operations. Along the way he was forced to defend himself many a time and embarrassed many would be pirates when they learned that the pilot who just shot down three of their best was a teenager, or that the lone rifleman who repelled their boarding had just hit puberty. They were good times for Lucas. At home, his sister Cynthia played with him all the time. The two were inseparable and were always getting into trouble with their mother, Kiara. Though a trouble maker, Lucas was adored by her. When the boy was found breaking into her husband's warehouse and showed up on their front door, she loved him immediately. It was because of her that the boy got his name. Lucas, after her father, and Vondran, meaning, "Vax's son of Alderaan." As time went on Cynthia and Lucas grew closer, and by the time Lucas turned 20, the two were no longer brother and sister, but lovers. Everything was going great, Lucas had a job, a family, credits, he was in love... it was perfect... was perfect.

Tragedy

Not long after Lucas began his relationship with Cynthia, their father, Karl, fell ill and died. Lucas, Cynthia, their mother Kiara, all were torn apart with grief. Karl had left everything he had to Lucas, the orphan thief who broke into his warehouse one fateful night. The three could not stay in the home that held so many memories of their beloved Karl, so Lucas, sold the house and worked on moving the company to another planet in the system. While taking his family out of system to get away from their grief and the world for a while, one chapter of Lucas' life closed and another one opened... violently and terribly. After exiting out of hyperspace in the Prakith system, to refuel and and rest, tragedy had it's day again. There wasn't even enough time for Lucas to react. the ship he had been flying was still registered one of his father's shell companies, one of the not so legal ones and apparently, the ships registry was stored in the system of the ship that fired first. They did not hail Lucas, they did not attempt to communicate with him, they barely finished their scan before they ended his old life. There was no choice, the ship would not hold. It had five escape pods, enough for two decoys. Not enough to save Cynthia and Kiara's lives. Lucas was forced to watch, helplessly, plummeting to the planet below in his own pod, as each of the other escape pods disintegrated into nothing. He watched as his mother was blown away. He watched as his lover disappeared into a ball of fire and steel.

A Chance at Revenge

When Lucas had lay low long enough, he knew what he had to do. He needed revenge. His best shot at it, was joining the Galactic Empire and enrolling in the Imperial Academy. Lucas knew who was to blame for the death of his mother and lover, and the Empire was his best shot at revenge.
