The Lieutenant Commander Du`bas Tyra Memorial Marksmanship Competition began as an Imperial Military competition designed to increase the lethality of individual officers, but is now open to all Imperial citizens as a part of the Imperial Civil Defense Initiative. Named for LtCMDR Du`bas Tyra, an Imperial Navy officer who sacrificed himself for Imperial victory in the War for the Hosnian System, Commander Tyra's bravery in the face of death are echoed in the Competition's motto, "Never without a fight!". While individual Imperial citizens may earn the Du`bas Tyra Medal across several categories, participating military units can also claim the coveted "Tyra Cup". Presented during or shortly after the Winter Celebration, the Cup is awarded for the Imperial Task Force with the highest combined score across all weapons categories in the preceding year.

Competition Awards

The Tyra Cup

The Tyra Cup is made of black durasteel taken from a wrecked Rebel armored vehicle, embellished with gold and rancor tusk ivory. The Cup bears the Imperial Seal on its face and is also adorned with an enameled representation of the Obsidian Crescent. Inside of the Cup is soil from the planet Hosnian. Before the cup is relinquished to a new winner each year, the Hosnian soil is placed on the world of the current holder who must then refill the Cup with Hosnian soil. In this way, the memory of Commander Tyra continues to spread across the Empire. The Cup is currently held by Joint Task Force - Ruby.

The Du`bas Tyra Medal

The Du`bas Tyra Medal, also colloquially known as the "Doobie" or "D'ub", may be earned by any Imperial upon presenting appropriate documentation of proficiency to the current approval authority. Current Imperial uniform regulations allow enlisted personnel to wear the award after all Imperial and Regional awards. Imperial officers are permitted to accept the medal and for their personnel files to reflect the same, but are prohibited from wearing these award on their dress uniforms. An exception is made for prior-enlisted Imperial officers who earned a Du`bas Tyra Medal while enlisted. Civilian personnel are instructed to wear or display the medal in an appropriately respectful fashion.

The initial proof copies of Imperial competition badges were designed by Lieutenant Viv Curtana, upon which the Du`bas Tyra Medal was based. The initial proofs were struck in precious metals for a total cost of 20,000,000 Imperial credits. The Du`bas Tyra Medal retains a military theme in honor of the medal's namesake and history. Each medal was designed to reflect the most iconic Imperial weapon platform of its category. Medals released for production to the Galactic Empire are made of stamped durasteel and are plated in the appropriate precious metal, with the exception of the Distinguished-level which is struck from pure auric.

Upon reaching the appropriate milestone for the award of a new badge, local Commands or Prefectures shall issue one set to each qualified Imperial. In the event of loss or damage to a medal, Imperials may contact their local quartermaster for all levels below Distinguished to receive a one-time replacement. As Distinguished medals are numbered and engraved by-name, requests for the replacement of a Distinguished medal may be made to the Chief of Civil Defense Operations, at the Imperial Academy on Prakith.

Rules

General Rules

In order to earn a marksmanship level, an Imperial simply plays a game in the appropriate category and logs their time played. Whenever an Imperial has reached the point threshold for the next level award, they move into the next category after verification with the approval authority. Point counts are cumulative within a category. Some levels have additional requirements that must be verified by either screenshot or corroboration from another Imperial.

Level Minimum Points Additional Requirements
Unqualified None None
Qualified - Bronzium 25 None
Sharpshooter - Argentium 100 Must play at least one Star Wars title
Expert - Antiqued Auric 250 Must play at least one Star Wars title and one session with another Imperial
Distinguished - Brilliant Auric 500 Must play at least one Star Wars title and two sessions with other Imperials

Calculating Points

Point calculation is based on the number of hours played. One hour of a game equates to one point. Partial credit is allowed in increments of 15 minutes, which will be the minimum amount of playtime required to earn credit. 15 minutes will equal one quarter point. If a game lasts less than 15 minutes, multiple rounds may need to be played to reach the minimum.

Some activities qualify Imperials to receive a point multiplier, as described below. Multipliers are additive but the maximum possible multiplier is 3x.

Activity Multiplier
Melee Activity 1.5
Playing a Star Wars Title 1.25
Playing with one other Imperial 1.5
Playing with two other Imperials 1.75
Playing with three or more Imperials 2

Recordkeeping

There is a form available for documenting games and may be used as a formatting guide for emailed submissions. Spreadsheets can also be used and submitted to the approval authority if an Imperial prefers, so long as it contains all of the required information.

Please note that this competition relies heavily on an Imperial’s honor to only report credit for games actually played and to do their best to accurately estimate the duration of those gaming sessions. Known or suspected integrity violations are extremely serious and offenders will be referred to their Chain of Command and/or ISB as appropriate.
