Kin-Jal Sidewinder is a 21-year-old Coruscanti male, currently serving as a Corporal in the Imperial Army.

Biography

Early Years

Kin-Jal Sidewinder was born on Coruscant, in Southport City, on the 323rd Day of Year -8.

Sidewinder was a teenager when he personally saw the Imperial Army for the first time. Before that, he was a poor boy who constantly dreamed of moving away from his family (his father, Arwen, his mother, Morearwen, and his younger sister, Morewen), and making a name for himself in the Galaxy. His family life wasn't terrible, it was just painfully dull for an adventurous young man like Kin-Jal. When he saw the organization and power of the Imperial Army, he knew that one day, he would stand amongst their ranks, and dedicated his life to achieve this goal. After the Imperial Visit, he began to train alone, without any help, honing his physical strength and mental discipline for Army service.

When Kin-Jal was 15, a group of thugs invaded his home, with the intent of robbing his family. His father, Arwen Sidewinder, had been a sniper during the Clone Wars, and after the conflict ended, he had retired from military service. As a token of gratitude to a veteran soldier of the Old Republic, the newly-formed Galactic Empire allowed him to keep his personal sniper rifle as a memento. With this very rifle, which he took from the place of honor upon which it now rested, Kin-Jal fired his very first shot, cleanly killing one of the thugs with a shot to the head. The others smiled wickedly when they saw that the rifle jammed after not having been fired for years, and they all jumped the young man, beating him savagely in revenge. However, Kin-Jal was able to single-handedly fight them off with the rifle's stock, but they did succeed in wounding him. Seeing his only son gamble own his life to protect his family, as well as having a natural affinity for the weapon Kin-Jal had no doubt inherited from his father, Arwen, decided that, from this day forth, he would teach his son to master the art of marksmanship. And master it he certainly did.

After learning to effectively use his father's rifle, Kin-Jal started to secretly work as an Assassin, 'taking care' of all manner of high-profile targets for money. Donning his father's old Clone Phase-II armor, and repainting it midnight black with a crimson red strip on the left pauldron, he used his talent for marksmanship to support his family. After working for several influential figures in Coruscant's underworld, Sidewinder earned a fearsome reputation for himself, but he began to question his career choice when his contracts began to involve murdering targets he personally considered to be good, honorable men that didn't deserve to die. Seeking to continue using his talents to help his family escape poverty, Sidewinder abandoned the Assassin's life, and considered enlisting in the Imperial Army.

When Kin-Jal turned 18, the minimum age requirement for enlistment in the Imperial military, he went to an ICR station and inquired about joining up. On principle, Sidewinder's mother, Moreärwen, didn't agree with his choice of career. She was instinctively concerned for his safety, but after a while, and with the help of his father, she relented, and Kin-Jal enrolled in the Imperial Academy.

At the Imperial Academy

When Sidewinder began his training at the auspicious Coruscanti Imperial Academy, he was overwhelmed with the feeling that is common among new Recruits. He was walking in the footsteps of heroes. It was shortly after this that Recruit Sidewinder first met his Academy mentor and instructor, Lieutenant Eldok Sol, an Imperial Navy officer.

Under the tutelage of Lieutenant Sol, Recruit Sidewinder immediately began his training regimen, impressing the Lieutenant with his determination to succeed, and scoring above average on marksmanship and field survival examinations. After 6 months at the Imperial Academy, and completing his final exams with little difficulty, Lieutenant Sol gave Sidewinder a passing grade and summarily promoted him to the rank of Private in the Imperial Army, and also awarded him the Imperial Academy Basic Graduate ribbon.

Private Sidewinder enjoyed his time at the Imperial Academy, but looked forward to at last starting his career in the Imperial Army in earnest.

Welcome to the Imperial Army

Upon his graduation, Kin-Jal met other enlisted personnel affiliated with both branches of the Imperial military, young men and women who shared the same wish as him: to serve the New Order loyally and with honor. After being assigned to his unit by RADIA, Sidewinder was first introduced to his his CO and his Army brothers, and, based upon recommendations made by Lieutenant Sol, Private Sidewinder became a member of the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, intending to pursue a fruitful career as an Imperial Scout Trooper.

Bravo Squad

Sidewinder was an excellent Marksman

After a spending a bit of time as an unassigned Trooper in the 1st RECON BN, Private Sidewinder was approached by a fellow Scout Trooper, Corporal Kol Seraph, who offered the Private the chance to fill a vacancy in his Bravo Squad, of which the Seraph was Squad Leader. Bravo Squad was an elite unit entirely composed of highly trained, specialized, and very well equipped members of the 1st RECON BN's 1st Section, nicknamed 'the Vanguards'. Its mission profile was as follows: to reconnoiter pre-deployment combat zones and provide vital combat intelligence to front-line units, eliminate enemy soldiers quickly and stealthily, disrupt enemy defenses via sabotage and covert assassination, and during combat operations, provide front-line units with long-range fire support. Upon learning that Corporal Seraph had reserved a position solely for him, Private Sidewinder gladly accepted the offer, becoming a designated Marksman and the eighth member of the Squad.

While en route to the Kuat System and their next assignment, Bravo Squad participated in the defense of the Imperial Star Destroyer Protector, after it had been crippled by the actions of a Rebel saboteur, and when Rebel reinforcements subsequently arrived to attempt to take control of the ship. Coordinating their efforts with their Navy comrades, Sidewinder and his Squad successfully repelled the hostile boarding action, and dutifully followed Corporal Seraph's orders to locate wounded personnel throughout the ship and administer first aid to as many wounded Imperials as possible. Sidewinder's efforts in particular helped save the lives of over a dozen wounded Navy officers and enlisted personnel, a testament to the effectiveness of his training.

Elandorea Raid

All of the members of Sidewinder’s Legion were shocked when one of their own, Corporal Alzie Jamima, an Imperial Academy honors graduate, and an enlisted with a seemingly bright future in the 3rd Infantry Company, went AWOL. After a probationary period, Legion Command charged the ersatz Corporal guilty of deserting her post. This incident sparked further outrage when it was made public that Jamima had commandeered her assigned craft, designated Inferno 10, which LCOMD had tracked to none other than a recently-discovered Eidola-controlled base on the Imperial planet of Spira, in the Lytton Sector. To deal with the fallout of this incident, LCOMD deployed two units. The first was the entirety of the 2nd Heavy Armor Battalion to wipe out all traces of the pirates from Spira once and for all. The second was a small unit of 1st Reconnaissance Battalion soldiers to; a) bring the traitorous Jamima into Imperial custody, and b) secure Imperial property (Inferno 10 itself), and spare it from the complete destruction of the pirate base. The unit chosen for this inherently dangerous operation was Corporal Seraph’s former unit, Sergeant Mikhail Perry’s Alpha Squad. Before deploying, Sergeant Perry put all his affairs in order, and once again voiced his support for the Corporal, his chosen 2IC, to succeed him as Section Commander in the event that things turned out for the worst. In hindsight, it is easy to see that the veteran Sergeant knew the chances of his surviving this mission were marginal at best.

LCOMD gave Alpha Squad exactly 48 standard hours after deployment to complete their mission and extract themselves, at which time 2nd HARM BN would have the go-ahead from Command to commence their operation and obliterate the Eidola cancer on Spira’s otherwise pristine surface. Unfortunately, after their 2-day operational window closed, LCOMD still had received no word from Perry or his men. Fearing the worst, but reluctant to condemn an elite Imperial Army unit to death by friendly fire, LCOMD had no choice but to accept Corporal Seraph’s proposal for Bravo Squad to conduct an extraction operation. The most time Seraph and Bravo Squad had to conduct their operation was 24 hours, as the 2nd Heavy Armored Battalion could wait no longer to begin.

Under Seraph’s orders to split up and pursue the completion of multiple, simultaneous objectives, Bravo successfully infiltrated the Eidola facility, codenamed ‘Elandorea’. Bravo Squad separated into 3 Teams, to focus on carrying out one of the Squad’s three objectives. Bravo Lead ordered Private Sidewinder and Rifleman Private Malcolm Hicks to work together, forming Team 3. Their orders: to find and apprehend the traitor who dragged two Imperial Reconnaissance Squads into this whole mess. After it was found that Eidola pirates had brutally tortured and executed 6 out of 8 members of Alpha Squad, including its Squad Leader, 1 Section’s Commander, Sergeant Perry, Bravo Lead clarified his orders to Team 3: Jamima, also known as ‘Tac 1’, was to be ‘captured ALIVE, all other concerns secondary’. It was clear to Privates Sidewinder and Hicks that their Squad Leader, now in command of the Raid as Acting Sergeant, wanted the traitor to live and answer for her crimes.

Team 3 eventually accomplished its objectives with a level of bravery, precision, and skill that would have made their former Section Commander proud, and incapacitated the traitor, Alzie Jamima, whom Corporal Seraph, now Acting Sergeant, considered personally responsible for the deaths of three quarters of his Section’s command squad. The two young Privates, relying upon their training and discipline, were able to safely escort Corporal Jamima through the pirate base, linking up with Team 2, and assisting them in the ongoing defense of Inferno 10, which they had secured previously. Shortly thereafter, Team 1, led by Seraph himself, rendezvoused with the rest of his squad, as well as the Alphas they had been able to save from certain death, and called for immediate extraction.

Clear of the enemy’s defensive range, and with all mission objectives completed, Bravo Lead informed LCOMD that the Vanguards had done their part, and declared the Raid over. Given the word that Seraph and his men were successfully extracted from the combat zone; LCOMD authorized the 2nd Heavy Armor Battalion to commence their operation. Within mere hours, the Galactic Empire eradicated the Eidola Pirates’ presence on Spira, and declared victory. As he was next in line in 1st Section’s chain of command, LCOMD promoted Kol Seraph to the rank of Sergeant, and Battalion command named him 1st Section Commander in honor of his fallen predecessor. In the absence of Alpha, Bravo temporarily became 1st Section’s new command squad.

Bravo Squad Leader

Upon returning from the Elandorea Raid, several important changes occured throughout 1st Section; Kol Seraph was promoted to Sergeant and became Section Commander, the Section's newest member, Sergeant Faison Ka`Marick was chosen by Seraph to act as his 2IC, and Sidewinder, promoted to Corporal in recognition of his contribution to the success of the Raid, became Bravo Squad's new Squad Leader.
