The Imperial Secret Police, formerly known as the Imperial Colonial Police, was a short-lived organization tasked with the security of the Empire; in particular anti-terrorism operations on key planets controlled by the Empire. Additionally, the Imperial Secret Police were tasked with the overall management of local law enforcement within Imperial Territory.

Following several months of inactivity from the organization and the defection of its leader, Fleet Admiral Crog, the Imperial Secret Police was dissolved and its duties absorbed by the Directorate for Imperial Intelligence.

Imperial Colonial Police

Creation

Following the dissolution of the Imperial Security Bureau after the New Imperial Order split from the Galactic Empire, and the defection of key COMPForce officials, the Empire was lacking a formal security organization to spearhead law enforcement throughout it's territories. After several weeks of planning by Imperial High Command, it was decided to form the Imperial Colonial Police to fulfill the security requirements. Their duties were simple: to oversee all planetary law enforcement groups and to maintain the safety of all Imperial citizens. Originally, this was seen as a weaken version of COMPForce, whose members held such power that their defections caused chaos throughout the Empire for some time. However, the organization was granted full arrest privileges by the Emperor and provided with a free lease on its operations.

The individual that was chosen to lead the Imperial Colonial Police was Admiral Crog, who had retired from his position as the Navy Commanding Officer after a series of investigations into his running of the branch. However, with the trust of the Emperor, Admiral Crog was named the head of the Imperial Colonial Police. Additionally, the Imperial Colonial Police were named the paramilitary organization of COMPNOR in addition to COMPForce. The intended idea was that while the Imperial Colonial Police supervised local law enforcement, COMPForce would provide the Empire with an experienced taskforce for dangerous law enforcement situations.

With the ability to mold the organization into a creation of his own, Admiral Crog recruited members of the Imperial Military to assist him in his daily operations. They would be put to almost immediate use during the first operation led by the Imperial Colonial Police. On the planet of Coruscant, the newest organization in the Empire swept across the vast planet in a series of anti-terrorism raids. Upon completion, over 300 high-risk terrorists ranging from Rebel loyalists to smuggling cartels had been arrested and the news of the success was announced over the Galactic News Service.

Operations

The Imperial Colonial Police continued anti-terrorism operations as they extended their reach to Corellia and Kuat, both major planets controlled by the Empire and known throughout the Galaxy for their strategic importance in the waging Galactic Civil War. It only suffered one negative issue with Staff Sergeant Kris Tan, a former Naval pilot that had joined the Imperial Colonial Police, being arrested during operations for treason. Many would soon forget this as the successes continued to roll in, including several joint operations with COMPForce.

Moff Kiltar, recognizing the achievements of the now-seasoned members of the Imperial Colonial Police, personally requested the organization assist the Mayagil Sector as it was assaulted by the Sorosuub Corporation and the Rebel Alliance. Despite the loss of the Sector, the organizations efforts in the defense were widely praised and ultimately led to calls for the organization to play a similar role on the planet of Thyferra. As rebel forces continued to force their way through the planet, members of the Imperial Military and Imperial Colonial Police fought on the streets side-by-side until the call for a retreat was given.

Despite the two defeats, the Imperial Colonial Police were granted permission for specifically designed ships to fit their needs. The Nebulon-B Frigate Adamant was named as the Flagship whilst several squadrons of Sentinel-Class Shuttles and TIE Scouts were assigned to units within the organization. All were put to immediate use as anti-terrorism acts continued throughout the Empire, reminding the Empire of their former successes.

Shortly after the appointment of Moff Goth to Grand Moff, it was decided that the Imperial Colonial Police would be reformed and renamed following sweeping changes to the Empire.

Imperial Secret Police

Reform and its Results

As the Ministry of Operations was formed, under the leadership of Grand Moff Goth, the Imperial Colonial Police was looked at for reformation into a larger organization with an expanded role of duties. Additionally, with the reduction of COMPNOR and the dissolving of COMPForce, a greater need for security had once again risen. In the end, the Imperial Colonial Police was renamed Imperial Secret Police and would report directly to the Emperor. As elements of COMPForce were absorbed into the Imperial Secret Police, a full rebadging was undertook and revealed to the Empire during an Annual High Command Meeting.

With an armed fleet and a recruitment drive to expand the ranks of the reformed organization, anti-terrorism operations were reduced and more emphasis was placed on the internal security of the Empire. This would see several liaisons appointed to the Imperial High Command, with many of the liaisons advising members on certain aspects of their daily operations.

The Imperial Secret Police would later be called in to assist in the defense of the Elrood Sector following the emergence of the Red Star Alliance. Advising on the situation, the Imperial Secret Police helped hold back the invading forces long enough for the BlasTech Corporation (later the Imperial Outer Rim Authority) to assume command of Imperial Forces in the Sector. Members of the organization that assist in the Elrood Sector would also be called upon to run the defense of Bespin; the planetary defense forces holding back the attempted invasion by the Kathol Republic.

Collapse and Downfall

With the many achievements the organization had received since its formation, the Imperial Secret Police would begin to collapse following many resignations and defections following the conclusion of the Elrood Operation. The organizations senior officer would retire and join the Chiss Ascendancy, along with several experienced members. Many more retired and those that didn't either defected or became missing in action as the Imperial Secret Police attempted to gain it's former glory within the Empire.

In the end, the organization retreated into the shadows where they'd remain until the betrayal of now-Fleet Admiral Crog. The organization was dissolved and it's duties merged into the Directorate for Imperial Intelligence.

Criticisms

The Imperial Secret Police were widely viewed by members of the Empire as 'wannabe cops' and received much scorn as its duties were increased. From this stemmed from dislike towards its leader, Admiral Crog, who was vastly hated by members of the Empire for his attitude towards those of a lower rank. It was also viewed that the branch was formed to remove Admiral Crog from a position of power following his removal as Navy Commanding Officer and that the organization was an unrequired element within the Galactic Empire.

Others, however, believe that the potential for the Imperial Secret Police wasn't met with the need for an Imperial-wide security organization greatly needed after it was dissolved along with COMPForce, the Imperial Security Bureau and the Imperial Inquisition. Regardless, the organization failed in its compliance with its duties and the lack of leadership provided by Admiral Crog.
