Faraday Jacen Euler (/ˈfæ.rəˌdeɪ ˈɔɪlər/; born Year -13, Day 177) is a Hapan male from Terephon. He is currently serving as a Commodore in the Imperial Navy and Group Commanding Officer of the 9th Group.

Early Life

Faraday was born in Year -13, Day 177 to parents Jak and Anita Euler on Hapes. His father served in the Consortium Navy as a commander of a small frigate in the Transitory Mists of the Hapes cluster acting to discourage pirate activity in the sector. His mother was a teacher. Due to his father's service in the Navy, the family was relocated to Terephon in Year -9 -- where Faraday would spend his formative and teenage years before joining the Imperial Military. He has one brother, Garik, aged 23.

Growing up, Faraday rarely spent more than a few years living in one place. Due to his father's career in the Royal Hapan Navy, Faraday often found himself moving between various ground-based and space-bases installations. It was likely this nomadic upbringing that caused him to adopt his chameleon-like personality, and difficulty fitting-in with any one group.

Attack on Terephon

Early in Year 3, a sizable, well-armed pirate group took an opportunity presented by a gap in the Hapan patrols to raid a small city on Terephon. The resulting attack left hundreds dead and forever changed Faraday. He was 16 at the time and had been forced to kill another sentient being for the first time.

Military Career

The Academy

Faraday began his military career at the age of 17 when he enlisted in the Imperial Military and began his attendance at the Imperial Military Academy on Prakith. While there, his primary Training Officer was then-Lieutenant Commander Mordus Nordstroem. During his attendance at the academy, he excelled in both large scale theoretical naval tactics and starfighter piloting; his performance in the simulators and the classroom helped cement his assignment to the Imperial Navy. In Year 17, Day 219 Faraday graduated the Imperial Academy with honours, was promoted to Ensign, and was assigned to the Imperial Navy.

Naval Service

Faraday Euler's active military service began as a starfighter pilot flying security patrols within Imperial territory. Due largely to his performance in the simulators and in live-flight sorties he was immediately assigned command of a squadron of TIE/IN Interceptors aboard a mighty Imperial Star Destroyer -- when normally pilots would be assigned to TIE/LN Starfighters. When his period of on-the-job training and sector patrols came to an end Faraday was reassigned to another Interceptor squadron, this time aboard a Victory Star Destroyer, to begin his military career in earnest.

OPERATION: PARADISE LOST

Towards the end of Year 17, Ensign Euler was involved in a skirmish over Byss that resulted in the loss of two-thirds of the pilots under his command, serious injuries to himself, and being ejected from his interceptor into the vacuum of space. Although his participation in this action was short lived he, and the rest of his squadron, performed admirably. The squadron made 10 kills at the expense of 8 fighters lost, a great feat given their opponents superior armaments and snubfighters. Prior to being rendered inoperative, Ensign Euler shot down three enemy pilots; two short of ace status.

His squadron ensured that a Lambda Shuttle carrying a number of Imperial VIPs made it safely aboard an Imperial vessel. For his actions in the skirmish, Ensign Euler was awarded the Mentioned in Despatches ribbon.

1st Fleet Signals Officer

Faraday Euler's tenure as Fleet Signals Officer was short, lasting only 18 days from Y18 D327 until D345 when he was given command of the 9th Group. While his time in the position was short, his impact was felt throughout the fleet, as evidenced by the awarding of his second Imperial Activity Medal and (in conjunction with his concurrent service as 13 GXO) first Imperial of the Month award.

Imperial Academy Training Officer

Late in Year 17, then Lieutenant Junior Grade Faraday Euler was offered the position of Training Officer at the Imperial Academy on Prakith--serving there for four months. In that time he personally oversaw the supervision and training of over three dozen recruits. After four months, Faraday ceased service as a Training Officer before returning late in Year 18--Almost a year to the day later--where he continues to serve.

Imperial Recruitment Officer

At the beginning of the second half of Year 18, Faraday joined the Imperial Centre for Recruitment as a Recruitment Officer, a position he still holds.

Personality & Traits

Amongst the people who know him, Faraday is known as somewhat of a social chameleon - integrating fairly well into nearly any social group or clique. Unlike his peers, however, he feels that he never really fits in with any one group. Due to his military upbringing, Faraday feels right at home within the Empire and quickly assimilated into the culture.
